40 Years on 40th Street . . .

Thank You for the Memories and Support

The celebrations marking the 40th Anniversary of The Dwelling Place culminated in a festive Mass of Thanksgiving held on Sunday, November 12 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church located at 135 W. 31st Street in Manhattan. The Franciscan Friars of Holy Name Province, faithful supporters of The Dwelling Place, offered the use of the church and San Damiano Hall for this crowning event.

One of the current residents of The Dwelling Place who served as a greeter reflected on her experience of welcoming the guests, “As I saw the church fill up with such a variety of people all coming in support of women like me, I filled up with tears. I realized that I am not alone in my struggle. I am surrounded by a community of support. It filled my heart with gratitude.”

Sister Joann, the board of directors, and staff thank each of you who shared this anniversary year with us, attending our special events, volunteering time, and contributing to our Anniversary Appeal and Anniversary Blast. To date we have raised over $87,000 to support the services offered at The Dwelling Place. As we enter into the 2017 holiday season, we hope to add to this total so as the new year, 2018, dawns, we are ready to build on our 40 year legacy of service.

The closing hymn at our Mass of Thanksgiving speaks to the appreciation we wish to express, to you our faithful friends and supporters. How can we keep from singing!
