Join Us at the 9th Avenue International Food Festival
In honor of its 40th Anniversary (1977 – 2017), The Dwelling Place of NY will be hosting a booth at the 9th Avenue International Food Festival on Saturday, May 20 and Sunday, May 21.
In 1977, the five Franciscan Sisters of Allegany who founded The Dwelling Place needed start-up money to make their dream of a shelter for homeless women possible. Determined to find a way, they set up a booth at the 9th Avenue Street Fair and collected $300. This became the seed money that allowed them to open the doors to the shelter at 409 W. 40th Street.
In this anniversary year, staff, board members, and volunteers are returning to this special 9th Avenue event to celebrate the 40 years of service provided to women in the local area and to seek donations to continue their mission.
The Dwelling Place booth will be located between 42nd Street and 43rd Street. Stop by to learn about the services provided and to offer your support on behalf of women in great need.
