Like many New Yorkers, we nervously watched the number of coronavirus cases begin to rise in the city during the beginning of March. As we learned more about the coronavirus and how quickly it can spread indoors, it became clear that, due to its dormitory-style setup, The Dwelling Place could not provide safe shelter for its residents without risking the spread of illness. After rehousing the women in our care, we reluctantly shut our doors and began to plan for the future.

We are committed to reopening The Dwelling Place. Administrator Deborah Pollack and the board of directors are in the midst of modifying our building and our policies and procedures so that we can continue The Dwelling Place’s mission – advocating for women experiencing homelessness in a caring, compassionate, and respectful atmosphere. The proceeds raised from this event will aid us in our efforts to reopen.
