2021 Annual Appeal
2020 presented The Dwelling Place with unprecedented challenges. There were many months, that the idea of reopening seemed so distant. Today, thanks to the support from each of you, we are happy to report that we are open and at full capacity. We are all healthy, vaccinated and operating all our programs. We implemented strict Covid safety guidelines from the moment we reopened our doors in January 2021, and it kept everyone safe.
You, our Donors to The Dwelling Place, made all the difference!
Heartfelt thanks to each of you for your generous donations. Your support fosters miracles of transformation empowering our residents with a renewed sense of dignity and purpose.
Will you continue to partner with us to assure other women that they are not alone?
Please consider a gift to our 2021 Annual Appeal. Your donation will witness to them that they have friends by their side as they journey out of trauma and homelessness.
The first activity we restarted, before we opened, was the “Wednesday Night Community Dinner”. It was apparent, soon after starting, that Covid had ravaged through our midtown community, leaving people unemployed and hungry. A dinner was not going to be enough. Thanks to partners such as Holy Cross, St Francis Bread Line and Catholic Charities, we were soon able to provide a full shelf stable pantry bag for people. We were also able to include masks, hand sanitizer, hygiene and other desperately needed items. Through your graciousness, we were able to provide, hats, scarves, and warm clothing for colder months.
Through Catholic Charities we partnered with First Republic Bank to provide our women with assistance in budgeting, gaining or repairing credit and opening bank accounts. We have several workforce partners so everyone at The Dwelling Place is fully engaged with either a training or employment. We also have a weekly medical van visit.
Thanks to our partnerships, six women have been approved for and are looking forward to moving permanent housing.
Most of our residents became homeless after years of struggling with either domestic violence or assault. Our close relationships with Safe Horizon, the SAVVI Program, various DA’s and Police Precincts, has allowed us to quickly enroll women for specialized services so that they can begin the long journey towards healing. Residents are participating in yoga, art therapy and gardening.
All gifts will be received as a blessing and will also be acknowledged in our Fall Newsletter.
